This weeks films were Lost Highway, (a favourite of mine and my friends in high school), and Mulholland Drive by
Lynch. These have very interesting themes in them, as well as not real
beginning or end from the story-line point of view. They are circular
in nature. There is no real way, in my opinion, of explaining the
movies properly, they just need to be watched. The ridiculous sublime
is an apt description of them, as Lynch seems to have very abstract
ideas and images in mind when he makes movies. There is some
altruistic-like care factor in some of the supporting roles in the film,
but they are always overshadowed by the
'can't-quite-put-your-finger-on-it-till-it's-too-late' evil characters,
or the influence of Satan on the human soul. I believe that this is
trying to express humanities inherent bad-side coming out. Here are
some highlights of the films:
